“Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and there is a riot, which makes your whole life useless. We must have life-building, human-building, character-building, assimilation of ideas. “— Swami Vivekananda The eternal words given above define an autonomous body under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan- Ministry of Human Resource Development of India. KVS is a vibrant and premier educational institution in the field of quality school education. The KVS Jammu region was established in 1984 and has current jurisdiction over 38 KVs located in Jammu and Kashmir, with a dedicated, well-equipped and committed team of effective management and teachers for the intellectual, moral and spiritual development of the students. Under its working in the same direction, a galaxy of multidisciplinary curricular activities are organized on a regular basis to bring out the best in students. ‘All round personality development’ is an important focus area to enable our students to march with the ever changing world of technology and globalization. We believe in inclusive education with principle “to inspire the weak, to address the average and challenge the gifted children”. We are proud to help our students develop into the next generation dutiful, sensitive and responsible citizens. Our students have achieved many milestones in the past and I sincerely hope that this quest for excellence and achievements will continue in the future as well.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. It is our constant endeavor to reach out as many children as possible, to enable them to become contributing members of the society. We trust the independent mind of the child and teach her/him how to think, not what to think. Through instructions, encouragement and inspiration we guide and support the children to create their own knowledge from the opportunities provided in class room and in different walks of life. Kendriya Vidyalaya being a miniature India opens gates to the vast and wonderful world around to mingle with a variety of cultures, ideas, attitudes and perspectives. Make use of this opportunity to choose the best out of life and be a part of our effort to achieve excellence.

      Yeshika Class IX, KV URI

Research Summary: Yeshika, Class 10, Kendriya Vidyalaya NHPC Uri
Focal Theme: Understanding Ecosystems for Health and Well-being
Sub-theme: Social and Cultural Practices for Ecosystem and Health
Topic: Non-Chemical Farming on Pest Management: An Inquest and Denouement
      Problem Statement:
The unsystematic and excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has caused significant imbalances in our natural ecosystems, leading to adverse effects on both the environment and human health.
      Proposed Solution:
In search of a sustainable alternative, we explored various regions of Kashmir and discovered a herbaceous perennial flowering plant, Urtica dioica. This plant, commonly known as stinging nettle, is rich in essential nutrients such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron. Our research indicates that Urtica dioica can be effectively utilized as a natural fertilizer, pesticide, acaricide, and fungicide. Its application promises to restore ecological balance while promoting healthier farming practices, free from the harmful effects of synthetic chemicals.
Yeshika’s research not only highlights a viable solution for eco-friendly pest management but also underscores the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern science for sustainable agriculture.
